Overwhelmed and Anxious in New Jersey

Overwhelmed and Anxious in New Jersey

If you've been carrying this for a while, you already know the feeling. The list never ends, your mind never stops, and even when everything gets done, your body stays braced for the next thing.

Feeling overwhelmed and anxious for weeks at a time is a real problem, and it has a real form of support. Anxiety therapy at Self and Wellness is available online to women across New Jersey, with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield accepted. The work focuses on the constant pressure and the racing thoughts, not just the surface stress.

What Being Overwhelmed Actually Looks Like Day to Day

It rarely looks like falling apart. It looks like functioning.

You answer every email, remember every appointment, and keep every plate spinning. Then you sit in your car in the driveway for ten minutes because walking inside means starting the second shift.

You wake at 3 a.m. with a tight chest, running tomorrow's list. You snap at someone you love over something small, then feel guilty about it for the rest of the night. You've read the books and tried the breathing, and the relief never lasts past lunch.

Overwhelm like this usually has more than one source. Workload, caregiving, old patterns of being the dependable one, and anxiety itself can all stack on top of each other until rest stops feeling like an option.

Why Does It Feel Like I Can Never Relax?

Anxiety keeps your body in a state of readiness even when nothing is actively wrong. After enough time, that readiness becomes your default, and rest starts to feel unsafe or undeserved.

If you've spent years being the dependable one, slowing down probably brings an immediate wave of guilt. That guilt is part of the pattern, not proof that you should keep pushing.

How Therapy Helps When Everything Feels Like Too Much

Therapy gives the overwhelm somewhere to go besides the inside of your own head. In our work together, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, parts-based work, and psychodynamic therapy, all grounded in trauma-informed care.

In practice, that means we look at the thought patterns keeping the anxiety in place, make sense of where they started, and work on the physical side, the tight chest and the nights your mind won't shut off. My style is warm but direct, and if something between us isn't working, we name it and adjust.

If the overwhelm has stopped feeling like a rough patch and started feeling like your baseline, that's usually the point where working with an anxiety therapist makes more sense than trying harder on your own.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, I've trained specifically in how anxiety takes hold, which shapes how we track it and work with it from the first session.

What Working Together Looks Like

Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes, held online, and available to women throughout New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee. We meet weekly in the beginning, then adjust the pace as things shift.

The first session covers what's bringing you in, the patterns you've noticed, and what you want to feel different. You'll leave with something practical to work with, not just a list of future appointments.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield is accepted, and superbills are available if you have out-of-network benefits, with Thrizer available to manage reimbursement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this actually anxiety, or am I just doing too much?

It can be both, and the difference matters less than what it's costing you. Overwhelm from a genuinely full life eases when the load lightens. Anxiety sticks around even after the deadline passes or the crisis resolves. If the pressure follows you into quiet moments, that's worth exploring in therapy.

Do I need to wait until I hit a breaking point to start?

No. You don't need a crisis, a diagnosis, or a rock bottom to justify getting support. If the overwhelm has been affecting your sleep, your relationships, or the way you feel about yourself, that's reason enough.

What if I don't even have time for therapy?

Online sessions remove the commute and the waiting room, which makes attendance easier when your schedule is already full. Therapy is meant to give you capacity back, not take more of it. If time is the main barrier, that's something we can talk through in a first conversation.

You Don't Have to Earn the Right to Feel Better

When anxiety makes every decision feel bigger than it is, even reaching out can feel like too much. That's exactly what a free consultation is for.
